Thank You from Team TYR WZA

By Uncategorized

2023 was one for the books. Whether you were in town to watch, compete, volunteer, or simply followed along from afar, we’re so thankful you joined us. From the entire team, we appreciate you joining us for our 11th year of celebrating fitness, community, and life.

There was no hiding that our team’s focus was and will continue to be that we ensure we stay true to our roots: to elevate the experience for the community. To showcase the athletes of all divisions. To celebrate their accomplishments. To provide the audience, at home and in-person, the coverage, environment, and experience they deserve. And if you’re reading this, we hope you felt it.

Now that the event has come and gone, as any competing athlete would, we’ve turned inwards and continue to reflect on our performance. The TYR WZA brought many wins, which included a better venue layout, the addition of the athlete recovery dome, more food options, and a new elite competition format. With the victories, come just as many if not more opportunities for improvement. This included the accessibility issues we faced with seating and the challenges with our broadcast.

For those that reached out, filled out surveys, or gave us feedback elsewhere, whether positive or especially constructive, thank you. You have our continued commitment as we continue to grow, we’ll always reflect to improve with the community as the focus. We promise to never lose sight of that.

Over the coming months, we will be transparent in announcing dates, competition format, rules, and ways in which we’re enhancing and improving the areas you’ve helped us identify. In the meantime, relish in your success, because you, the community, are what makes the TYR WZA possible.

See you soon,
Team WZA

TYR WZA Elite Individual Match Ups

By Uncategorized

This year, we’ve got the most stacked roster in the Elite division. Check out a few head-to-head matchups we’re excited to watch unfold over the competition weekend!

Written by Michael Lanwehr

Dani Speegle vs. Sara Sigmundsdottir

Two of the most recognizable personalities prepare to face off under the Miami heat. Dani
Speegle coming off her best Games finish to date looks to carry that momentum into the 2023
season. For Sara, WZA represents the first step in her comeback trail back to the Games. Who’s
ready to watch both ladies throw down all week long?!

Roman Khrennikov vs. Ricky Garard

The second and third place finishers at last year’s CF Games look poised for another
unbelievable showdown in the Sunshine State. Roman may have gotten the best of him in
Madison, but Ricky doesn’t strike me as the type of competitor to take that lying down. Expect
nothing less than absolute fireworks any time either of these athletes take the floor!

Dallin Pepper vs. Gui Malherios

Two young bucks are set to clash on the shores of Bayfront Park. Gui is undeniably one of the
most electric competitors the sport has ever seen. A maestro with the barbell, get ready to see
some big weights as WZA kicks off with a 1RM Clean and Jerk. Meanwhile, Dallin had an
incredibly strong debut last year in Madison. And at just 20 years old, the sky really is the limit
for this baby faced killer. Who’s ready to take that next step in their CF careers?!

Patrick Vellner vs. The Sun

Cats and Dogs. Oil and Water. Tall people and CrossFit. Patrick Vellner and the Sun. Natural-born
enemies. And yet, against all odds, Vellner continues to beat the heat and enters the
competition as the 3-time defending champ. Do I smell a 4-peat or will the sun finally strike

TYR WZA Elite Team Match Ups

This year, we’ve got the most stacked roster in the Elite division. Check out a few head-to-head matchups we’re excited to watch unfold over the competition weekend!

Written by Michael Lanwehr

The Boyz vs. Canadian PB+J

The Defending Champs meet the Great White North. With 38 (!) individual Games appearances
between them, it’s 1 st place or bust for either team. Mr. Miami himself, Noah Ohlsen, looks to
catapult The Boyz to the top of the podium for the second year in a row. Or will it be the boys
from the north to put the defending champs on ice? Looks like the Miami sun isn’t going to be
the only thing heating up the competition floor!

King BK + Friends vs. Team GOWOD

Nothing says Miami quite like a little international flavor. Hailing from all corners of the globe –
and armed with three National Champs to boot – these two juggernauts are ready to put on a
show for the rest of the world to see!

The Smith Bros. vs. The Pancheppner Bros.

This matchup has schoolyard rivalry written all over it. “I’ll get my brothers, you get your
brothers and that weird Heppner kid from up the block and we’ll settle this down at Bayfront at
sundown.” Who else is looking forward to great competition and even more trash talk from
these two all weekend long?

The Dottirs ft. MOB vs. Team BPN

How many athletes are instantly recognizable on a first-name basis? Annie, Katrin, Mal – say
less. All eyes will inevitably be on The Dottirs ft. MOB whenever they take the floor but handing
them the crown based on clout alone not so fast. Enter Team BPN. If a team’s going to have
something to say about it, it’s them. Horvath, Simmonds, Migala – all with Games experience.
All ready to challenge for the podium.

A.K.A. Humble Killers vs. All American Girls

The newly unretired Kari Pearce and the A.K.A. Humble Killers are looking to make a little noise
down in Miami – that is after the 2x Strongest mom in America Arielle Loewen puts the kids to
bed of course. Meanwhile, the All-American Girls and their combined 19 individual Games
appearances aren’t looking to give anyone a free ride. Take note because fireworks are sure to
follow whenever these two teams take the floor!
