The below standards should be considered a guideline for movement standards and WZA reserves the right to make any changes to skills, loads, exercise, etc. These are considered to be “working weights” and exercises that can be performed for multiple repetitions if programmed.

individual DIVISIONS

Adaptive Seated Rx/Scaled

The Seated division is for all adaptive athletes that perform the majority of their workouts in a seated position. Athlete able to perform exercises standing will not be eligible for seated division.

Seated athletes will compete in a singular division in the WZA Online Challenge. At the conclusion, the top 6 athletes of each gender will qualify to compete in the Rx division, while those athletes that cannot perform the workouts as prescribed or finish 7th or below will be eligible for the scaled division via Open Registration.

Rx Minimums:
Olympic lifts: 110/55lbs
Skills: knee burpees, wallballs, floor to box, 15/10ft rope climb, swim unassisted & most Rx gymnastic movements. Seated athletes will need access to a wheelchair.

Higher & Lower function level athletes will be classified as:
Higher – Unable to use abdominal muscles or below ie. T-7 -C-1 impaired
Lower -Access to all or some abdominal, hip flexors ie T-8 to amputee
The Higher athletes will receive % deductions on prescribed weights. Please refer to our FAQ page for more info!

Adaptive Standing Rx/Scaled

The Standing division is for all adaptive athletes that perform the majority of their workouts in a standing position.

Standing athletes will compete in a singular division in the WZA Online Challenge. Olympic lifts 135/ 85lbs
Skills: Burpees, wallballs ,double-unders, 15/10ft rope climb, swim unassisted & most Rx gymnastic movements depending on impairment.

Single Arm & Single leg athletes will be classified as 1 point of contact on the equipment or floor. These athletes will receive % deductions on prescribed weights. Please refer to the FAQ page for more info!

Elite/Rx/Intermediate

Athletes in this division are expected to have performed all workouts in the 2019 Open as prescribed with no scales or modifications.

  • Snatch (165/115lb)
  • Clean & Jerk (245/145lb)
  • Chest to Bar Pull-Ups, Double-Unders, Ring/Bar Muscle-Ups, Toes to Bar, Handstand Walk, Strict Handstand Push-Ups, Legless Rope Climbs, Single Leg Squats
  • Proficiency performing any movements with dumbbells (50/35lb)

Scaled

Athletes in this division may have performed workouts in the 2019 Open as prescribed, but that is not mandatory. Having performed workout(s) scaled or with modifications is acceptable and programming for this division will reflect that.

  • Snatch (95/65lb)
  • Clean & Jerk (135/95lb)
  • Pull-Ups, Double-Unders, Hanging Knee Raises, Rope Climbs
  • Proficiency performing any movements with dumbbells (40/25lb)

Athletes seeking to compete in the Beginner division should have no more than a full year of CrossFit experience. As a guide, this would be your first live competition if you plan on competing in the Beginner division. Athletes in this division typically scale most if not all workouts at their affiliate, during The Open or on CrossFit.com. Workouts at our event will reflect these details.

  • Snatch (75/55lb)
  • Clean & Jerk (115/85lb)
  • Single-Unders, Ring Rows, Hanging Knee Raises
  • Proficiency performing any movements with dumbbells (35/20lb)

Athletes in this division are expected to have performed all workouts in the 2019 Open as prescribed with no scales or modifications.

Age Requirement: Athletes in this division must be 35 years of age but not older than 39 as of 1/1/2020.

Age Requirement: Athletes in this division must be 40 years of age but not older than 44 as of 1/1/2020.

Age Requirement: Athletes in this division must be 50 years of age but not older than 54 as of 1/1/2020.

Age Requirement: Athletes in this division must be 13 years of age but not older than 15 as of 1/1/2020.

Age Requirement: Athletes in this division must be 16 years of age but not older than 18 as of 1/1/2020.

Athletes in this division should not have typical RX competition experience.  

  • Snatch (95, 65lb)
  • Clean and Jerk (135, 95lb)
  • Pull-Ups, Double-Unders, Rope Climbs
  • Proficiency performing any movements with Dumbbells (40, 25lb)

*Athletes do NOT have to complete the WZA Online Challenge & Qualifier together or in the same location.
